  • Bewid Illuppai Poo samba brown rice -1 cup
  • Water - 5 cups
  • Salt to taste (optional)

Cooking Time

  • 30 min

Method: Traditional open vessel

  • Wash Mappillai Samba rice 2-3 times with normal water.
  • Soak washed rice in 5 cups of normal water for 1 hour (1:5 rice-to-water ratio).
  • Drain the same rice-soaked water and allow it to boil in a vessel. When water starts to boil, add the soaked rice to it and cook for 15 minutes.
  • After 15 - 18 minutes, turn off the flame & close the lid for another 15 minutes to allow the rice to cook further.
  • Strain the excess water and let the rice rest for 5 minutes before serving.
