MANGO TOOR DAL (TANGY MANGO DAL)

Ingredients :

  • Toor dal (yellow pigeon peas) – 1 heaped cup
  • Ripe mango – 1 medium (peeled, chopped)
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  • Curry leaves – 10–12
  • Salt – to taste
  • Ghee / oil – 2 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds – 2 tsp
  • Fresh coriander (cilantro) – ¼ cup (finely chopped)

Method:

  • Wash pigeon peas well. Boil with 3 cups water → simmer for 10 mins till partially soft.
  • Add mango, turmeric, salt, spices, curry leaves + 1 cup water.
    Cook for 20 mins till soft and mushy.(Dry roast peanuts, sesame, spices + coconut → grind → use as homemade garam masala.)
  • Heat ghee/oil → add cumin seeds till aromatic.
    Add coriander leaves → switch off.
  • Mash dal lightly → add tempering → simmer for 5 mins.
    Adjust salt and serve.
